Hi, my name is Patrick Hamer and I have been creating art for more than 20 years. For many years, it was only in my head, which has been very busy with ideas. Sometimes I wrote my ideas down, but I never followed them up.
By looking at art in big and small galleries and getting inspiration from daily life and the streets and the world, it really started to develop.
In the beginning, I was hesitant, asking myself: Can I really do this? Am I good enough? Can I make art? Will anyone like it?
In the beginning, I was hesitant, asking myself: Can I really do this? Am I good enough? Can I make art? Will anyone like it?
But I was touched by looking at paintings and objects. I discovered this was the way for me to express my emotions. It was a gateway where I could transfer my feelings and ideas into canvas creations.
I like to develop my own techniques and have good knowledge of which materials to use, gained from previous employment. I get inspired by using new methods to apply accents or create backgrounds and focus points.
In 2019, I became the first person to win both the jury and the public prize at the UWV Kunst Congress with my painting “We are soldiers”. It was a great moment and a huge inspiration for me to continue making art my passion.
Art is my form of survival! I hope that you can see this in my art, and that you enjoy it.
